Through The Vortex: The Review Labs 2021 Look Ahead

A look ahead to what's coming up in 2021!

Hi Everyone!

Welcome back to the lab and its final post of 2020!

It’s very safe to say that 2020 has been an emotional year for all, but keep hanging on as were so nearly there, 2021 is just around the corner and with that will be a host of new things to look forward too. So in this post we are going to look ahead to a couple of the films; TV shows and Games we are most excited about.

If you missed our first post about the year just gone and our favourite parts make sure you go and check it out.

Lets get into it, The Review’s Lab 2021 Look Ahead.

TV

WandaVision - January 15th - Disney+

Coming up right at the start of the year is the return of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with its first Disney Plus show WandaVision. Currently it has been over a year since we were last in the MCU with Spider-Man: Far From Home. This is the longest streak we have seen without any MCU Films or TV shows since the MCU began.

So on January 15th we will all gather around our TV screens to get our first glimpse into phase 4 of this universe we all love so much. We have been shown two trailers for WandaVision so far, yet the detailed plot is still kept under wraps. What we do know is the show takes place after Avengers Endgame (2019) and stars both Wanda and Vision living a suburban lifestyle trying to conceal their true identities, yet as decades start to pass and they discover themselves living different television tropes, they realise not all is as it seems.

WandaVision has also been confirmed to link to both Spider-Man 3 and Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness. So fans are sure for a ride that will include threads that will link to all of these projects, I am very excited to see how this plays out and also links to other Marvel projects coming out next year.

Zack Snyder’s Justice League - HBO Max

Zack Snyder’s Justice League is a project anticipated by DC fans all around the world. As many people may be aware Justice League was released back in 2017 after a difficult production. Zack Snyder left the project after most of the filming had been completed due to a family tragedy and the project was taken over by DC and Joss Whedon. They reshoot and remade most of the film so what was seen was never Zacks vision. Let alone reports of trouble and misconduct from Joss Whedon on set.

Ever since fans have been begging for Zack Snyder to go back and finish this project and his vision. Fans were then delighted in May when Snyder himself announced the release of his vision of the project. It will be split into Four- One hour - episodes in March 2021 for HBO Max in the US (With international outlets still TBC) and will then be made into one singular 4 hour film combining each episode.

This is great news not only for the fans around the world wanting to see this take, but also for the stars and Zack Snyder himself. Finally being given the chance to release his vision for the film. Snyder has already confirmed it will be much different to what we were given a few years ago. With a trailer now released and additional filming recently completed, March simply cannot come soon enough.

Doctor Who - Series 13 - Spring 2021 (TBC)

Doctor Who is a staple of british television since 1963. Each year fans gather around their TV screens to see whats in store for the Doctor and company. Next year will be no different. Once Doctor Who has its special on new years day, it will also return for a full series 13 at the end of the year.

Again not much is known about series 13 as of yet, all we do know is this time around The Doctor will only have one companion in the TARDIS as compared to three. Joining her this time is Yaz as seen in Series 11 & 12. There are of course rumours of Captain Jack joining the fold after the upcoming special, alongside rumours of returning foes such as The Weeping Angels. If any of this is true, we will just have to wait and see.

Film

Dune - October 2021

Originally slated for December of this year, Denis Villeneuve's take on the legendary novel by Frank Herbert is now due to be released in October 2021. This film is a long time coming and is VERY anticipated by cinema attendees around the world. With a fantastic director in Denis Villeneuve, who has directed standout films such as Arrival and Blade Runner 2049, it is sure to be a visual epic.

The film is an adaptation of Frank Herbets fantastic novel, and is the first of two parts. The film follows the Atreides family on the planet of Arrakis, led by Duke Leto, his wife Jessica and their son Paul. The Planet is inhabited by many foes such as the giant sandworms. After a devastating betrayal Paul and Jessica are led to the native Fremen as they battle to reclaim Arrakis.

If the film is in any way faithful to the book then we are sure for an amazing ride. With a cast led by Timothee Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Jason Momoa, Stellan Skarsgard and much more, Dune looks set to be a film that people will be talking about for years to come.

Untitled Spider-Man 3 - December 2021

After the cliffhanger of Far From Home, fans have been desperate for answers as to what happens next for Spidey in the MCU and fans have to wait one more year to find out as it swings into cinemas next December. Tom Holland returns as the famous web-crawler alongside returning characters MJ (Zendaya) and Ned (Jacob Batelon).

However they may not be the only people returning for this installment. We have already been confirmed by multiple media reports (Such as The Hollywood Reporter) the returns of Jamie Foxx’s Electro and Alfred Molina’s Doctor Otto Octavious. However what is most interesting is the heavy reports of returning stars Toby Maguire and Andrew Garfield as their incarnations of Spidey. The heavy rumour is this new adventure will take after the success of the recent Spider-Verse film.

We already know that this is going to be linked to both WandaVison and Doctor Strange 2, Which Sam Raimi is directing, which are both known to be explorations of the Multiverse. So this could be far from a rumour and more reality. Fans (Including myself) are now just eagerly awaiting confirmation of the films returning stars. I for one would love to see Holland’s Spidey team up with both Garfield and Maguires as they take on well loved foes. I guess for now we will have to wait until December 2021 to find out!

Gaming

Hogwarts Legacy - 2021

The Harry Potter Universe has been a staple of pop-culture since its inception many years ago. The story of a boy wizard took over the world almost instantly and it hasn't been the same since. Yet In all that time we have had films; books and many game adaptations, however what we haven't had is an open world RPG set within the Wizarding World.

Until Now.

The game was announced back in September and so far, very very little is known about the game. What we do know is it will be set in the 1800’s with players being allowed to choose their hogwarts house, explore the wizarding world whilst encountering foes, learning spells and brewing various potions. For fans of Harry Potter this will no doubt be very highly anticipated. Although there is much controversy surrounding JK Rowling at the moment, we for one do not agree with her comments, we are still excited to return to a world that has brought us much joy over the years.

God Of War: Ragnarok - 2021

After its predecessors critical and commercial hit back in 2018, one of the biggest games to be released will be the next installment of the God Of War Series. Nothing is really known about this game except for the fact it will surround Ragnarok, will include the character of Thor as well as returning characters Kratos and Atreus. If this sequel is anything like the first, we are sure for a fantastic game.

There we have it, just a couple of things we are very excited for in 2021. However there is so much more for us all to look forward too and you can be sure here at The Review Lab, we will cover it all.

I just also want to take this time to say Thank You. At the start of this weird year for us all I decided to start up this little project as a creative outlet, little did I know how much I would fall in love with it and how much it would grow. I want to thank you all for the support you have shown, it really means alot to me.

We have so much coming up in 2021, with brand new posts and ongoing series as well as new projects in the pipeline, The Review Lab is just getting started. As mentioned this is the last post for this year, however we will be back on the 2nd of January 2021 with our first post of the year which will be a review of the upcoming Doctor Who Special.

Until then, have a safe but great Christmas and New Year.

Look out for each other.

We will see you in 2021!

Harry x
