The Joker Returns and Spider-Man 3 Speculation.

Updated: Nov 12, 2020

Jared Leto’s Joker returns as well as all the latest news and speculation about Spider-Man 3

Welcome back to the Lab,

Today’s post is a news post from the lab, we’re going to speak about Zack Snyder’s Justice League and also everything we know about the highly anticipated Spider-Man 3. Let’s get into it!

Jared Leto Returns!

It has just been announced via The Hollywood Reporter that in a surprising turn of events, Jared Leto’s Joker is going to be making a return via the reshoots for Zack Snyder’s Justice League!

For those of you not in the know and going “We have already seen Justice League in 2017”. Well you’re not wrong, however what we saw back in 2017 was not the Director Zack Snyders vision. Snyder left the project due to family tragedy and the film was picked up by Joss Whedon and DC Executives. They remade 95% of the script and the film ignoring the work Snyder had done.

Cut to three years later at DC Fandome and we finally got an announcement we were waiting for, Zack Snyder was getting to release his vision as a four hour miniseries event on HBO Max, not only that but he is also getting a budget to finish filming and adding new scenes. We know that all main cast will return, Yes even Ben Affleck, but today it was announced Jared Leto is being able to reprise his role as The Joker.

This is very surprising for all fans, Leto’s incarnation was a part of 2016’s The Suicide Squad and was famously cut and edited around to hardly show anything of his character by executives. He was also known for staying completely method on and off set, even going so far as to sending bizarre gifts to castmates. Viewers were convinced they had seen the last of Leto in this universe, especially now he is moving over to Marvel to star in the film Morbius. Little is known as to how large a role he will play, but the news of him returning is surprising enough.

Giving this incarnation of the character a chance to shine in this mini series could prove to be a success, given that we didn't get to see much of this version of the character originally we might be surprised now that Leto finally gets a chance to shine. Only time will tell.

Zack Snyder’s Justice League arrives on our screens September 2021.

Spider-Man 3 News and Speculation

Spoilers for the MCU follow.

Spider-Man has always been a fan favourite superhero of mine, and most people around the world, so all the news and speculation surrounding the upcoming Spider-Man 3 (Title tbc) is getting a lot of fans in a spin, let’s round up what we know and have heard.

Spider-Man Far From Home ended with Mysterio framing Spider-Man for murder and revealing his identity to the entire world via The Daily Bugle. Putting speculation aside and focusing on what has been confirmed, little is so far known. What we do know is all cast is returning from Zendaya as MJ to Jacob Batalon as Ned. It has also been confirmed that Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange will be appearing and taking on the mentor role in this film, previously occupied by Iron Man and then Nick Fury.

What’s most interesting about this is, Doctor Strange is going to be filming back to back with Spider-Man 3 with Strange’s director being none other than Sam Rami, Yes the director behind the original Spider-man trilogy. This has got fans speculating about there being a possible SpiderVerse movie set within the MCU, especially since Doctor Strange 2 is called The Multiverse of Madness, which will be the MCU’s first venture into the multiverse. Could Doctor Strange’s second outing lead to the multiverse Spidey Film? Very Possibly.

Alongside Rami returning to Marvel to helm the MCU’s venture into the Multiverse, it has also been confirmed that Jamie Foxx’s Electro - Last seen in Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 - Is also returning, further adding fuel to a live spider-verse with this villain appearing. Again, this is just speculation at this stage with nothing confirmed by Marvel Or Sony. However it has been reported by multiple outlets that both Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire have signed on to reprise their roles in the untitled third film. Sony came out and instead of denying outright, they said nothing could be confirmed at this stage.

If the MCU can use Doctor Strange to bring back both Garfield and Maguire to this role alongside Holland, fans will go absolutely wild, myself included. It would be great to hear the amazing theme known from Maguires film and see both him and Garfield return to help the MCU’s Spidey. The speculation is that they will come back in the film's final act to help Holland’s Spidey defeat a multitude of villains like Electro. I myself would like to see this, yet I also want Holland to get the screen time and proper story he deserves and not be overshadowed by the returning cast.

Both actors returning for this can also mean they may not be done with the role in the future, rumour is they could get follow up films separately, taking place outside of the MCU, in the style of DC’s Joker film. This would be great to see and for me personally i would love to see this for Garfield's incarnation of the character. His version of the character I enjoyed and felt he was hard done due to the reaction of The Amazing Spider Man 2. Plus we would all love to see another full outing with Tobey Maguires Spider-Man right?

Personally all of the speculation regarding this third film has got many fans including myself very excited. For now we will just have to wait until Spidey swings onto screens again in his third outing to find out if we will see the return of Maguire and Garfield.

The third untitled Spider-Man film swings onto screens December 2021.

Would you like to see them both back?! What do you want too see happen in the third Spidey film?

Are you excited for Leto’s Joker to also return?

Let me know what you think in the comments below!

Until the next post, stay safe, look out for each other.
