Let's go through what we found out!
Insomniac’s Spider-Man (2019) and Spider-Man Miles Morales (2020) are two of the biggest games in recent years. Playstation & Spider-Man fans welcomed games that told a compelling and emotional story, fantastic graphics and interesting and innovative gameplay. So after the announcement of Spider-Man 2 in September 2021, fans have been very excited.
After nearly two years of waiting, we have been treated to an extended gameplay demo and (at time of writing) we have just found out some new details thanks to their panel at San Diego Comic Con and the brand new story trailer, which you can watch at the end of the post. Here are a few details we found out.

9-10 Months Later
First we learned that around 9-10 months have passed since Spider-Man Miles Morales. Both Peter and Miles have become a great team with MJ and Ganke by their side. Graphically, all characters have been upgraded since the first game and all look amazing. Can we also take a moment to appreciate Miles' new haircut, it looks great!
MJ now works at the Daily Bugle with J. Jonah Jameson as her boss. Peter is trying to keep up with payments with Aunt Mays house but can't bring himself to sell it, and Miles is procrastinating with writing his College entrance essay.
However one of the biggest details that we learned is that in the time that has passed, Harry Osborn has been freed from his tank, in which we saw him last, We see him interact with Peter, MJ, Miles and Ganke and he promises Peter that together they are going to “Heal The World”. Could this be a hint to Venom, more on that coming up but its safe to say Harry’s return is going to have ramifications for Peter, Miles and Co.
Return of Old Foes
Arrival of New Ones.
One of the more interesting tidbits we were told is that Miles will be coming face to face with Mister Negative himself, Martin Li. As players know, Mister Negative is the reason for the death of Miles Father back in the original game. The makers of this game have told us that Miles will still be struggling with his fathers death, so how this affects him remains to be seen.
We know, thanks to the gameplay demo a few months back, that a new foe arriving in this game will be Kraven and his Hunters. It will be up to Peter and Co to uncover who or what they are hunting. Maybe it has something to do with Venom and the Symbiote? Or possibly even something else?
The Symbiote
Once again thanks to the gameplay demo a few months ago, we know that Peter will be infected with the Symbiote giving him the black suit. In the demo we saw this alter his personality and how he interacts with his enemies. We know now it is going to strain the relationships with those around him, in particular MJ and Miles and Harry.
Now here at The Review Lab are pretty sure this may end up in a conflict of some sort between Miles and Peter. Maybe it will be Miles trying to get through to his mentor and bring him back from the brink? We know in the long term that whatever happens Peter wont be with the symbiote for long…
Venom!
Venom is here!
Thanks to the story trailer we have gotten, we now have our first look at Venom and he looks terrifying!
But who is he? They have already said that Venom will NOT be Eddie Brock. Us here at The Review Lab believe Venom to be Harry Osborn, which the trailer heavily implies even having Venom repeating the same line Harry says at the end of the trailer. Maybe Harry will become Venom and Peter and Miles have to stop him? If so, maybe Norman Osborn's grief will be so great it causes him to become the Green Goblin?.
That's at least what we think is going to go down, one thing for sure, we cannot wait to see Venom in the game voiced by the magnificent Tony Todd.
Other Tidbits:
The map has been heavily expanded, we will now be able to explore Queens, East River and Brooklyn.
Mondo will be releasing an exclusive Spider-Man 2 vinyl with art by Kris Anka.
Playstation and Insomniac are releasing an exclusive Playstation 5 Spider-Man 2 bundle, with Exclusive Console Covers and Controller. The Covers and Controller will also be available to buy separately.
Spider-Man 2 releases as a PlayStation 5 Exclusive on October 20th 2023 and we cannot wait!!
